Confucius Institute at University of Libya Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary

On May 28th, local time, the 10th anniversary celebration of the Confucius Institute at University of Libya (UL) was held at the old campus of the University of Libya (UL). More than 200 people attended the ceremony, including Ophelia Inez Weeks, President of the UL, Fu Jijun, Chinese Ambassador to Libya, faculty and students of the UL and the Confucius Institute, representatives of Chinese-funded enterprises in Libya.

In her speech, Ophelia Inez Weeks fully recognized that over the past decade the Confucius Institute at the UL has been playing an important role in promoting Chinese language teaching and Chinese culture, as well as exchanges and cooperation between China and Libya in economy, trade, education and culture. She encouraged young people in Libya to continue to work Chinese language hard, so as to promote cultural exchanges between China and Libya and make contributions to the common development of China and Libya.

Fu Jijun pointed out in his speech that the Confucius Institute at the UL, as the first one established in West Africa, has witnessed a brilliant decade and became an important bridge of cultural exchanges and friendly cooperation between China and Libya. He hoped that faculty and students of the Confucius Institute at the UL will make persistent efforts and continue to make grater achievements, so as tocontribute to better future of China-Libya relationship.

At the ceremony, students from different teaching sites presented to guests wonderful shows. The cheerful show ¡°Seaweed Dance¡± by children and the graceful performance ¡°Shanghai Night¡±by college students all received warm applause. The acrobatic performed by students from Sheng Yu Middle School was even more amazing and brought the house down. ¡°Shao Nian Shi Jie Shuo¡±poetry recitation by faculty and students from the Confucius Institute at the UL andThree-Charater Classic (San Zi Jing), one of the Confucian classics, recited by children from Kingdom Primary School, brought audiences the charm of Chinese.

The-ten-year hard work stocks what they have achieved now. The Confucius Institute at the UL has served as a window for young students in Libya to learn about China. It has been also promoting exchanges and cooperation in culture, education, economy, science and technology between China and Libya.
